TTDC
was incorporated during July 1971 under the Companies Act 1956.
The entire share capital of Rs.678.63 lakhs has been subscribed
by the State Government.
TTDC was formed with the objective
of promoting tourism in Tamilnadu by providing infrastructure facilities
of transport and accommodation. To
fulfil this objective, TTDC has expanded its activities into 3 main
operations, namely, Hotels, Transport and Fairs.
HOTELS:
Hotels of TTDC is at present having
78 outlets as indicated below:

Out of the 54 hotels under the control of TTDC, two hotel units have
been handed over on long term lease of 30 years during the year 1995.
The Government of Tamilnadu have already approved
proposal of franchising
30 hotel units of TTDC and 7 Restaurants.
Efforts are being taken to franchise these hotels on long term
basis for 10 years in respect of small hotels with 5 rooms and 15 years
in respect of other hotels.
The Youth Hostels cater to the needs of budget tourists with very
low tariff of Rs.50/- per bed.
Franchising of the hotel units would improve the overall
profitability of the hotels division and help TTDC to concentrate on the
major hotels at Ooty, Kodaikanal, Yercaud, Madurai, Thanjavur,
Coimbatore, Rameswaram, Kanniyakumari and Mamallapuram.
TRANSPORT
DIVISION:
The Transport Division is at present having a fleet of 22
coaches, of which 4 coaches are AC.
TTDC is offering wide range of package tours covering the entire
Southern States and also States of Bihar, Maharashtra and Uttarpradesh.
The coaches are maintained by the garage at Government Estate.
Apart from the Sales Counter at No.3, EVR Salai,
Chennai, TTDC is also having Sales Counters at New Delhi,
Calcutta, Mumbai, Trivandrum,
Bangalore. Selling
Agents have also been appointed at nine States to sell our hotel rooms
and package tours.
RAIL CUM
ROAD TOURS:
TTDC
has launched Rail-cum-Road tours from Mumbai, Kolkatta, Delhi, Ahmedabad
and Lucknow during the year 2002-2003 wherein confirmed rail tickets,
tour of Tamilnadu in TTDC's Hitech coach, accommodation in TTDC hotels
and Guides services are provided. The
tourists are accorded a warm reception at Chennai Central Station and
are also boarded at Chennai Central for return journey.
FAIR:
The Annual Fair is conducted by TTDC for a period of 90 days from
January to March. The Fair
division has proved to be a major money spinner for TTDC with a gross
profit ratio of 45%. Emphasis
has been laid on conduct of Industrial Exhibitions by exhibitors like
Auto Fest, Business India, Chemtech, ICE, etc. during the non-fair
period of 9 months.

TECHNOLOGY:
TTDC
has launched its Online reservation system of Hotels and Transport at
URL: www.ttdconline.com
by Hon'ble Chief Minister of Tamilnadu .Tourists can book the hotels and tours of TTDC through
the internet from anywhere in the world.
TTDC
had launched its Website at URL www.tamilnadutourism.org
wherein tourists can know the information of Tamilnadu Tourism and
conducted package tours of TTDC , Chain of Hotels of TTDC ,Etc. The site is most useful for benefit of domestic and foreign tourists.
TTDC had also computerized
its employee's provident fund, pension fund, payroll and accounting
system for the benefit of its employees.
PROJECTS ON THE AVAIL:
TTDC
has proposed to operate Passenger Ropeways at Ooty, Kodaikanal,
Kanniyakumari and Yercaud for which tenders have already been floated. This will be a major tourist attraction in these places.
These projects are likely to be commissioned
within a span of 30 months. |
